Testing Accessibility

Welcome - lets get started!

Why Test?

Utilizing tools for testing accessibility is an important measure to make sure that whatever digital space you are creating is usable to everyone. In testing you are able to run your online space through a tool which will highlight areas of accessibility that are running very well, and areas which could use more focus and updates. The tools are not perfect, so it is important to also manually look over everything.

What is the Tool?

Siteimprove is an automated website scanning tool used at UCLA for FREE to help identify accessibility issues and improve the overall quality of websites. The tool regularly scans enrolled sites and analyzes content to detect problems such as missing ALT text, broken links, spelling issues, and accessibility errors. It provides a dashboard with reports and recommendations so website owners can identify issues and fix them, helping their sites meet accessibility standards and improve usability for all users. For more information on how to start using Siteimprove visit our Siteimprove Overview page.

What is Manual Testing?

Manual testing is another way to evaluate the accessibility of an online platform. DCP human testers look through spaces to identify accessibility issues which might have been missed. Due to the fact that this is time and resource intensive the DCP can only cover a certain amount of manual testing requests.
