Welcome to UCLA's Disabilities and Computing Program
Access to computer
software, hardware and electronic information is critical for the educational and career
achievement of many people with disabilities. At UCLA the responsibility for
adaptive computing and information access is shared by campus computing facilities,
information providers, and departments. To help coordinate and provide computing
services for students, faculty, and staff with disabilities, UCLA's Disabilities and
Computing Program works closely with key partners on campus, including: the UCLA Committee On
Disability, the Chancellor's ADA/504
Compliance Office, the Office for Students
with Disabilities, the
UCLA
library, and Academic Technology Services.
The DCP promotes Web accessibility and usability. Web
accessibility resources are available to get you started.
The DCP provides a wide
variety of services designed to help people with disabilities access the
computer.

What's New in Adaptive Technology
UC Web Accessibility Resource
A working group from across the UC System has published a guide for web designers with best-practices and code examples for creating accessible websites. From the homepage:
This Web site has been created to help University of California Web developers understand how to make their sites accessible, and to point them to useful
tools and resources. The University of California recommends that its Web developers follow the Section 508 technical standards for Web-based intranet
and internet information applications.

Disabilities and Computing News Put Your Name On The List
Do you stay awake nights wondering how to keep up with the latest news in
adaptive technology? Maybe not, but the Disabilities and Computing Program has
the solution to help you stay up to date painlessly. We have launched the
Disabilities and Computing News listserv to bring you the latest information in
our field. It is a low-volume, announcement-only list, with weekly updates and
occasional bulletins of breaking news. We highlight DCP live presentations, the
progress of our adaptive tech lab, and special projects. But beyond this we
strive to keep you informed of all the latest adaptive product releases and
upgrades, as well as developments on hot topics such as accessible Web design,
electronic books, the Section 508 Federal accessibility standards, and distance
education.
